This funeral doom metal band has been around for a long time and now returned to Rotterdam. They brought one support act, but the venue added two more. I skipped the first band as I wanted to do other things during the afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I got there on time to see <strong>Phlebotomized<\/strong>. A cult Dutch progressive doom who had been active in the nineties, and like so many reformed some 10 years or so ago. Now they announced they would call it quits again and only play a couple of farewell gigs. This being the first of three. At least they had Tom Palms back on guitar after his injury or at least for a couple of songs. They had two more guitarist who did the last run of gigs. And drummer Gerben was behind the kit again as he was in the early days of the reunion. The good thing was they only played old songs of the Immense Intense Suspense album and the Devoted to God EP. Starting with Desecration of Alleged Christian History. Tragic Entanglement was a bit of a surprise  and I think they never played since the early days. These guys were quite original back in the days. And these songs still stand nowadays. Quite a good gig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second band I saw was <strong>Todomal<\/strong> from Spain. They play doom metal with clean vocals and downtuned guitars. I hadn&#8217;t heard them before. And even though it sounded alright it didn&#8217;t make a big impression on me musically. The vocals are a bit midrange and lacking in real power. And the lyrics are silly. Quite short songs for doom too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last band of the even was <strong>Evoken<\/strong> from the US. They had just released a new album  last year. These fairly simple songs work well for them. They have stayed very close to the sound that they  started with. So newer song fit in quite well with the older material. They opened with Matins of their latest opus. But went through their back catalogue all the way to Quietus with In Pestilence Burning. Omniscient off the split was probably the biggest surprise. They ended their set with probably their best song, the title track off their best album: Antithesis of Light.
