The Chilean Pentagram is a fairly obscure death metal band that has been around for almost 40 years and only managed to release two albums so far. The second only being released this year. Every one in the band except Anton is called Juan – oh well. I discovered them recorded one of their songs – Demoniac Possession – and it sounded real good. So it is a bit of a cult act. Now with the new album they played some festival gigs in Europe and added a few club gigs too, one in Breda.

The venue added a support slot named Witchfukker. A Dutch band, that plays some raw death metal although the corpsepaint may give another impression. It is mostly in the style of Sadistik Exekution and early Bathory. Little melody, chaotic riffs, not much structure and essentially quite simple songs. Live it is somehow entertaining, could do with a bit more of a aggressive approach to the stage act. I don’t think I could just listen to this for more than a couple of minutes a home.

Then it was time for Pentagram. They of course opened with a new song, the opening track of the new album along with 4 other new track. . But there were many of the classic songs from the demo era – which were re-recorded and released on a bonus CD for their debut album. Profaner, was already the second song followed by Demented, Temple of Perdition, Fatal Predictions and even the song Evil Incarnate which originated from a very old rehearsal. They were really grateful to be playing even though there were may 80 people in the venue – possibly also because it is holiday season, and it was on a Monday evening. From The Malefice only La Fiura was played. It sounded all a tad faster than on the album, and bit rawer live sound made it all sound more aggressive too. The set closer was Demoniac Possession. The audience wanted to hear Spell of the Pentagram, and they wanted to play it as an encore, but their drummer had already gone backstage. Bummer. Quite a good gig tho.
