Martin Schirenc plays a few gigs in September under the name of Schirenc plays Pungent Stench. Basically, it is just Pungent Stench albeit without Wank. And it is even more like Pungent Stench now that Pitbull Jack is back on Bass. The support slot was for the Dutch band Bodyfarm. And it started early. Half past 7 and was finished before 10. Nowadays gigs are early.
Anyway Bodyfarm is a band I never much cared for. Like today they often fill support slots. Pretty much run-of-the-mill death metal. All the riffs have been done a thousand times. Though I must say the few newer songs they played sound more interesting, tending to more melodic death metal. Generally solid playing although some of the leads were a bit shabby.
The Pungent Stench all the way from Austria. They only played stuff from the first 3 albums and the EPs. Starting with the Eponymous song. Pungent Stench has very much a style of their own with lots of weird riffs, but some how all the songs are very recognizable, groove tremendously and with some blues thrown in sometimes. Even the good old Dead Body Love off the split was played. Oh and of course there is the weird humour. Not only in the silly lyrics, like Happy Rebirthday or Blood, Pus and Gastric Juice. Bonesawer was announced as Bonsoir. Embalmed in Sulphuric Acid is fast ripper. And the bluesy Viva La Muerte off the Dirty Rhymes EP closed the set. Really a fun gig.
