Since thrash metal is quite popular these days, not only are there lots of new bands appearing, but also many of the older bands are active again. Amongst those is Flotsam and Jetsam whose newer albums are quite forgettable but the first two (three) are genre classics.
Local support came from the thrash metal band Paramite – a very young band still with little experience; they were looking at their fretboard the entire gig. Musically pretty redundant thrash. The final track was a rendition of Sepultura’s Troops of Doom.
Second band was Italy’s Neurasthenia; also thrash metal. But they more so reminded me of bands like Nifelheim, especially qua looks. So studs and chains is not all that weird, but devil’s horns on your shoulder is downright pathetic. And so is barfing fake blood. Musically rather dull and rather forgettable. They also closed their set with a cover. Kreator’s Phobia. Certainly not Kreator’s best effort and that just suits this band.
After half an hour or so, the intro for Flotsam and Jetsam sounded and one by one the band came on stage. And then it was Doomday for the Deceiver. A great but rather long song that was played quite good. And Erik’s vocal’s were great too. And more classics followed. Including I Live You Die, Hammerhead, Hard on You, The Master Sleeps, Escape from Withitn. Mixed among these were some song of Drift and Quartro, which are quite forgettable and I don’t understand why they’d play them anyway. At least these are short songs. For an encore we got No Place for Disgrace, their best song ever and the really old Iron Tears. Then they came back a second time to play Fork Boy (a cover from Lard). A great gig really but they should have swapped the newer stuff for songs like Suffer the Masses, EMTEK, She took an Axe or any track from the first three albums.
