A new album is forthcoming by the Swedish death metal veterans of Dismember and the band went on the road to promote that album already. I went to an apparently rather new club in the heart of Purmerend, named P3.
The first band World Escape from Germany had nearly finished their set when I entered the hall. But judging from the song and a half that I heard, I missed little. Mostly modern metal mixed with some thrashy or death metal influences.
More or less the same can be said of the second band the also German Fall of Serenity. Musically entirely redundant and boring to the bone. At least the band brought it with some spirit, especially the singer was in a lively mood. The cover of Slayer’s Raining Blood they played was mediocre and sloppy.
About Hatesphere I can say pretty much the same again. Boring, *-corish garbage.
Finally there was Dismember and the first few notes showed the enormous difference with the support act. The opener “Skin her Alive” set everything right – that is the way to play death metal. Among all the classics Dismember played a few new song: one title I recall is Combat Fatigue. These songs sounded neat too but different in a way. I guess I just have to wait until the album is released. The remainder of the setlist comprised of amongst others Trend killer, Skin Father, Bleed For Me, On Frozen Fields, Tragedy of the Faithful. A final encore was played in the form of “Dreaming In Red”. The only letdown was that in about 50 minutes it was all over (something to do with an injury of the drummer or so I heard).
