Sadus @ Baroeg 14 April 2006

It isn’t often that Sadus plays in Europe or releases an album, but this time around they did both. A new album came out titled “Out for Blood” and now Sadus were promoting that, kicking off their tour in Rotterdam. Opening the evening were the new Italian deathrash band Gory Blister – a remarkably stupid bandname, if you ask me. Although the band did their best, they couldn’t really interest me. Most of the songs lacked a head or tail and seemed no more than a succession of riffs. And the overactive, theatrical singer didn’t add much to that either.

A more experienced band was second: The Swedish thrash metal band Darkane. The band received a great response from the audience and they were very enthusiastic. Nevertheless, like the other times I saw them play, could really hold my attention for more than a few songs.

Now, Sadus is a whole different cup of tea, featuring none less than Steve DiGiorgio on fretless bass – one of the most skilled metal bass-players out there. They started with a couple of songs from the new album. Although the schedule said they’d only play for 50 minutes, their set list, taped to the stage was huge containing more than 20 songs – that wouldn’t do in 50 minutes. And although they skipped a song or two, off the Elements of Anger album, they played for more than a hout and a half. Songs of all albums passed plus “The Kill Team” off their demo, they ended their set with “Certain Death” only to come back for two songs more. In short a pretty good show, and I hope they would make us wait again for so long.
