The first gig of 2013 for me is the presentation of Officium Triste’s new album “Mors Viri”. The announced to play a double set this evening – one with new material and one with older material. So as there were no support acts, it was OT plain and in-your-face. The first hour was filled with a bunch of new songs the new album (4) plus some more or less recently released material (at least after the previous full-length). I had heard some of the new songs during other gigs and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of these new songs and the overall stronger compositions within the confines of somewhat limited sub-genre. And listening to the new album just confirms my findings here, albeit I find the lyrics a bit awkward at times. There was a short break and they returned for a second set, this time with material of the previous full length and older songs. Mostly songs that have been played quite frequently over the last couple of years, like This Inner Twist, My Charcoal Heart, Pathway and of course the perpetual set closer This Is Goodbye. Despite some quite obvious mistakes a pretty solid gig for a band that rarely disappoints live.
