Scum is one of those legendary metal clubs in the Netherlands of the past, most of which sort of vanished somewhere in the 1990s or so. But they found a new spot and a new building right next to the beach. And it´s only a some 20 kilometers away from my home. This Thursday, US thrasher Whiplash were reliving their gig from 1988 in the old club as part of a few gigs around a festival show. Then with thrash legends Sodom, now there was a local support band.
Trashcore Fanatics or TCF opened with a rather simple 80 thrashy hardcore and they brought some local fans to enjoy it. The rest of the crowd, like myself stayed mostly in the back. Not my thing really.
Tony had switched members once again since the last album, so Whiplash was just him as an original member.once again. And nowadays he looks more like a country singer than a metalhead. Not that it mattered really. Tony’s vocals were vile as ever and the guitar playing was sharp. Most of the set was comprised of songs from the first two albums interleaved with some newer songs. Surprisingly nothing from the latest album even though it has a couple of really good songs on it. It wouldn´t have hurt to swap the song Enemy of the hideous Cult of One album for one of those. Nevertheless a quite fanatic band, that played quite tight/y with an excellent set. Not a bad way to spend a Thursday evening. Setlist:
- Last Man Alive
- Warmonger
- Spit On Your Grave
- Killing on Monroe Street
- Stagedive
- last Nail in the Coffin
- Eternal Eyes
- Insult to Injury
- Enemy
- The Burning of Atlanta
- This
- Walk the Plank
- Power Thrashin’ Death
- Nailed to the Cross
