It had been 2 years since the old Baroeg was closed, demolished, and a new venue was built to replace it on the same location. It had opened a short while back. And with Asphyx playing there it was a good opportunity to check it out. Old building had its charm, I have been going there since 1998 or so. The new venue is a lot bigger, even with a balcony. And with three Dutch metal bands it was nearly sold-out. I skipped the first band Mouflon.
The second band was about to start when I entered the venue. Bodyfarm are around a long time, but I never really got in to them. They play rather traditional death metal. The first couple of songs sounded quite dull and slowish. Later in the set the songs had more aggression and were faster – and generally sounded better. Still all the riffs sound rather familiar. The whole sound was a little thin. Anyway the had some trouble with their gear as one guitar amp broke down and the had some issues with the drum kit. It took quite some time to fix tho. Hence they ended their set late. Oh well
Then it was time for Asphyx. After the changeover, there was a little trouble with starting the intro from tape. So they just came on stage and started Vermin. Follow by the great It came from the Skies. The guitar sound on stage was way too loud. So it was pretty hard to hear the other instruments. After a few songs they also had trouble with the drums. Seemingly one of the kick pedals broke down. After that was fixed apparently and the started Death the Brutal Way, but it broke again during the song. They replaced the beater I think and then all was good again. The set list was basically the same as when I saw them a while back in Leiden minus a few songs. No MS Bismarck or The Krusher. Anyway a pretty good gig.
